The annual Kilmovee 5K and 10K road races once again took place on Easter Saturday, 4 April 2026, with runners, walkers, volunteers, and supporters coming together for another successful day starting at 1pm.
This year's event was held in wet and windy conditions as Storm Dave brought a yellow weather warning across the county, but the weather did little to dampen the spirit of the day. As always, the races were held on Easter Saturday, continuing a long-standing tradition that has made the event one of the most popular fixtures in the local running calendar.
A Challenging Day For Racing
While the forecast promised a testing afternoon, conditions were not as severe as many had feared. The day brought a mix of wind and rain, with the weather serving up a proper road-racing challenge for participants. Even so, the event went ahead smoothly and safely, with runners showing great determination from the gun to the finish line.
The wet and windy conditions added an extra layer of difficulty, particularly on the exposed sections of the course — but that only seemed to bring out the best in those taking part, with plenty of strong performances across both the 5K and 10K distances.
Community Spirit On Show
One of the hallmarks of the Kilmovee races is the sense of community that surrounds the event, and this year was no exception. Local volunteers played their part before, during, and after the races, helping everything run efficiently and creating the welcoming atmosphere the event is known for.
A special word of thanks goes to Pat Rushe and Connor Kelly for their fabulous photos available on our Facebook page, to everyone who shared, tagged, and supported the event on social media, and to all those who contributed cakes and bakes towards our legendary post-race hospitality.
We are also hugely grateful to our sponsors and to the local businesses that contributed time, resources, and services. Their backing is vital to the continued success of the event, and their support is deeply appreciated by everyone connected with Kilmovee 5K and 10K.
Another Successful Race Day
Both the 5K and 10K races proved popular once again, with a great turnout across the field. Competitors of all ages and abilities took part, whether chasing personal bests, testing themselves against the conditions, or simply enjoying the tradition of the Easter Saturday races.
The event's continued success reflects the hard work of everyone involved in organising and delivering race day. From registration to course support and hospitality, the effort behind the scenes was clear throughout.
The 2026 edition of the Kilmovee 5K and 10K road races added another strong chapter to the event's history. Despite Storm Dave, the day was a success on every level — and we look forward to welcoming you back for Easter Saturday 2027, 27 March at 1pm.
