More than 250 runners competed in the 5k race, which was won by Martina O'Connor of Mayo AC in a time of 19 mins 31 secs. Age group Results can be found in the pdf below...

Well, we were!
Our weather gods almost got it right with a 20kph southerly breeze and a few clouds but importantly dry day this Holy Easter Saturday. The events (5k & 10k) went off without any major drama or incident - but the day didn't start that way! With volunteers arriving early to start preparations they soon found water in Kilmovee was off due to a leak - Phones were hopping and calls were made and thankfully the group water scheme got the problem resolved in time! Thanks, guys & gals! The course record is still intact with Dan Charlton from Kiltimagh finishing in 33:36. He was just over a minute ahead of Enda Marren in second place in 34:45, with Tom Feeley Trim AC third in 34:54. Sinéad Whitelaw Mullingar Harriers AC 38:25 won the women's race, with Aoibhín Flatley Swinford AC second in 39:17, and Sarah Byrne third 40:48 With Caitlin Hughes Swinford AC was first across the line in 19:14 in the 5K Our media partner wacnie.com has photos from the day, with a series of albums being published over the next few days. Just like our facemask appeal, which saw you guys raise enough to buy almost 14,000 to go to the Hospice and other crucial frontline workers during the height of COVID-19.
But this time it's personal!
As some of you may be aware July 10 2021 is a day that will always be a day to remember, the day I went to work in Duffy's SuperValu, Ballaghaderreen but ended up in Mayo General then on to Galway University Hospital for 3 stents having had a STEMI heart attack (known as a widowmaker).
I am one of the lucky few, who has survived this kind of event, partly due to getting speedy assistance from my colleagues, the ambulance service, and the health service doctors, nurses, and surgeons. I also played my own little part by taking Aspirin when I realized that something was going wrong with my health... It is so important to know the signs and get help straight away - my symptoms were severe pains in the jaw like I had been chewing gum all night, it was not the dramatic Hollywood-style attack just a subtle but painful effect.
So why am I posting this here?
Well over the years I have been involved behind the scenes of the Kilmovee 10k mainly with the website and photos, joking that I only ever run the website and having never ever taken part in the event I used it to motivate my recovery, by telling myself I would walk the 10k course before this year's event on 16th April 2022. I have been walking every morning since mid-July, my lifestyle has changed and I have been able to lose over 2.5 stone (or 16.8kg).
And Saturday 9th April is the day I will complete my 10k... Just 9 months since my heart attack. What's more, I hope to complete it in under 2 hours.
I'd love it if my effort were to motivate others to register and walk even the 5k course or a course nearer to home with the virtual Kilmovee 5k or 10k, you could even use the form below to donate a little to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and help motivate me on Saturday.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to see you all in Kilmovee on Holy Saturday 16th April 2022 for the #kilmovee10k #togetheragain 1pm sharp.

We are delighted to announce that the Kilmovee 10k road race will be returning this year along with our new 5k plus a virtual 5 & 10k too - #TogetherAgain
This will be the first time in 2 years that we welcome you back to the friendliest and flattest road race in Ireland, and boy we can not wait to see you all on Holy Saturday 16th April 2022. However, as our normal is now the "new normal", we have to protect you and our volunteers, and every effort will be taken to ensure that this year's Kilmovee 10k will be a safe place for everyone. We have therefore made one noticeable and big change regarding our registrations. That being we will not be accepting any registrations on the day - All registrations must be made online before the closing date (TBC). We are still working through the fine details as yet and we will post further updates here on www.kilmovee10k.com and our Facebook page www.facebook.com/kilmovee10k - registrations will open very soon! These last few years have been tough for us all, we can see light at the end of the tunnel but we must all keep each other safe - follow guidelines, rules, and government advice. By doing so we will be #TogetherAgain in Kilmovee, County Mayo on the 16th of April 2022 - for what will be a special day for us all.Another tough decision had to be made about the Kilmovee 5 & 10k races, but we know you'll support us again, this year!
There would be nothing we want more than to see 500+ of you running, jogging, or walking through the parish of Kilmovee and offering you our legendary hospitality, but in these uncertain times the committee has decided on grounds of safety to you, our volunteers, and the community at large this year's Kilmovee 10K will be run virtually. You will still be running, jogging, or walking for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA and helping to grow the already staggering €80k+ raised for MRHF just in your own time and while adhering to government Covid guidelines. The whole Kilmovee 10k team welcomes you to register, participate and submit your times between 28th March and 3rd April 2021, we are also running our Micheal McDonnell Memorial Shield for students and teachers & this year we wonder where in the world will it be heading? Finally, with the continuing rollout of the vaccine, we desperately hope that next year we will see you all here in Kilmovee and sampling our hospitality and atmosphere in person.REGISTER NOW
Registration & results are being managed by popupraces.ie for this year's event
The first batch of face masks was presented to Angelina Nugent of the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation at the Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA ground, while observing the government's physical distancing rules. Some 4,000 face masks were donated to the MRHF following an online appeal for donations in a bid to raise funds to purchase 10,000 masks for front line workers. The Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation like a lot of charities have been hit hard in fundraising activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic, securing these masks for their caregivers will ensure that they can continue the care of their patients safely and without having to find extra funds to purchase these small but critical pieces of equipment that is much needed in the front line.
Thanks to the generosity of the supporters of this year's canceled event, an anonymous donor and local start-up online store iamwizzrd.com who also donated 1,000 masks bringing the total to almost 14,000 masks which will be finding there way to care workers and other Front line workers over the next few days.
Good morning folks, today would have been our 11th Kilmovee 10k and 2nd 5k…
But sadly due to the ongoing #coronavirus pandemic it is cancelled 😢
Please do not travel to Kilmovee, please #stayhome and #StaySafe
Instead you can donate to our 10,000 Face Masks Appeal. Raising funds to supply 10k medical face masks to front line workers.
We have been in touch with Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and assured them they will be receiving some ( numbers to be confirmed) as we would have been raising loads of €'s today for them.
The team will be looking at donations after the appeal closes at 1pm today and the available number of masks to be distributed then contacting potential recipients.
Thank you to everyone who has already donated there is still time if you haven't.
Please support us if the final run in…
Thank you.
The Coronavirus has brought our normal way of life to halt, we have all had to make changes & sacrifices.
This year's Kilmovee 10k fell foul of the pandemic meaning hundreds of runners, joggers, and walkers who raise thousands of euros each year for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and a dedicated committee with a free Easter weekend. But sitting by in self-isolation just wasn't on the cards. What good could come out of this crisis? How can Kilmovee 10k help and continue with something different? Seeing the news each evening, seeing how the frontline workers are struggling with equipment sparked the imagination of one of the members who came up with the idea to do a simple fundraiser on kilmovee10k.com That idea was to raise 10,000 Face Masks for frontline medical workers - A mask a meter. A form was put on the site and shared with local and national media along with an effective social media campaign, it wasn't long before the funds started to arrive with 200 masks funded in the first hour. Donations continued to be made from all around the country, Europe and worldwide. Since the launch of the appeal, we've had almost 300 donations through the website along with a number of cash donations made to committee members. As the appeal drew to a close at the significant time of 1 pm on Saturday 11th April 2020 the time the 11th Kilmovee 10k would have started we are delighted to be able to announce that with the assistance of a benefactor that wishes to remain anonymous we have now significantly surpassed the target. Any remaining funds will be donated to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation. We have also decided on who will be the recipients of the masks but these organizations need to be contacted first and a further press release will be made shortly after the masks have been distributed. On behalf of Kilmovee 10k we would like to thank everyone for their incredible support and donations, it is very much appreciated and thank you on behalf of the front line medical workers who we know will be moved by the amazing gesture made by everyone. In these times of crisis - the best in people shines through, kindness and generosity is restored even tho the chips are down
The 11th Kilmovee 10k may be shelved this year due to the national and international pandemic. We all may be stuck in our homes whether self-isolating, working from home or homeschooling...
But there are thousands of Front-line workers leaving home every day to care for the vulnerable, the sick, taking the dreaded tests, working in care homes but the classification of Front-line worker doesn't stop with the medical profession - Postmen & women, retail workers, delivery drivers, gardai, volunteers and so many others that in the knowledge of leaving their houses to carry out they're duties are putting themselves, their families and loved ones at risk - so that we can all #StayAtHome
We at Kilmovee 10k would like to say a big Thank You to you all.
With that said, a thank you is nice but the medical profession is where we turn our attention and where we are about to launch something very ambitious.
Kilmovee 10k with your help, the help of businesses, families, and friends want to donate 10,000 medical face masks to various medical front-line workers - That's right Kilmovee 10k Face Masks!!
This is a simple donation and if we manage to get 1000 of you to donate just €8.20 we will meet our goal - But of course, that's not very ambitious so here's the twist -
We want to have the amount raised by Saturday 11th April 2020 1pm - The time this year's race would start!
Please get behind this by donating, sharing, tell friends and family to help us reach our target - Let's get behind our Medical Front-line workers and show them we care about them, their families and their loved ones!
Thank you all the Kilmovee 10k Team
PS. We have already had an offer that if we reach 10,000 masks www.iamwizzrd.com will donate a further 1,000 masks!!

Kilmovee 10k has developed a great reputation in athletic circles with participants coming from all over the country and worldwide.
This year the race will be run on Saturday 20th April (Holy Saturday) @ 1pm, with this being the 10th running of the event. An ideal opportunity for you to come and celebrate and show your appreciation to the hundreds of volunteers that make the day happen.
Another great reason is, this year there will be a 5k race run at the same time... Yes, two races!
Starting at the back of the main race start, the 5k will then head off at the same time in the opposite direction, up the slight incline, turning left - heading along the road with the graveyard on your right, heading towards the Astroturf and Community Centre, straight over the crossroads at Community Centre and along road - joining the 10k route at the Urlaur turn, taking a left approx 0.5k, following the road for approx 1k, turning left at end of the road, just in time for the 'slopes' finishing at the main finish line with your time recorded... Yes, this race will also be chipped**.
This is a great opportunity for those who want to be part of the biggest one-day event in the parish but felt that 10k was just a step too far...
Registration is Live on Kilmovee Box Office and is €20 per entry to celebrate this new feature they are offering €5 off the 5k only for today only (20th January) apply this coupon code 2019 - kilmovee 5k to get your discount.

Firstly, thank you for your continued support this year 2018.
The Kilmovee 10k will in 2019 be 10 years old, making us one of the longest-running 10k's in the area. One of the suggestions we received to keep our event one of the best was to run a 5k at the same time , so we ran a short poll on our facebook page, the results were a resounding yes in favour of this suggestion. Now the race director has a little work to find a suitable course and all the logistics involved in running a separate race at the same time, but word is he is in favour and work has already begun - so watch this space for more updates! We have worked hard on security and privacy lately on the website and we're pleased to announce the new single/double registration is now open, with 3+ coming in September (along with the 5k around that time too) This year (2018) you may have noticed the drone floating around we are now pleased to bring you the footage... Please feel free to share on your favourite social network! We really hope that you'll get behind us in 2019 and make our 10th 10k the biggest and best ever, join us on Facebook, favourite/bookmark this site and subscribe to our newsletter for more news and information. #mc_embed_signup{background:#fff; clear:left; font:14px Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; width:100%;} /* Add your own MailChimp form style overrides in your site stylesheet or in this style block. Over the last few years, we've used Red Tag Timing and we'd like to thank them for their support over the years. However, we believe this new partnership will be a strong one. With 10 years race experience, Core Timing know what it is like to take part in events from the racers perspective. Core Timing provides reliable and instant results for event organisers and competitors. From their website: Core Timing is a sports timing company based in the Northwest serving local and national events. These include but are not limited to running, swimming, cycling and adventure racing. Chip timing has become the norm for events of all types and sizes. It provides reliable and instant results for event organisers and competitors. One of the many advantages to organisers is that it frees up event volunteers from the responsibility of trying to manually record times which is both time consuming and often unreliable. From elite to recreation level, competitors demand instant and accurate results. Core Timing can provide this at a price which is surprisingly more affordable than you might expect. Our systems utilise state of the art RFID technology which is the same as that used at the Olympics. They are robust for outdoor use with secure reusable tags. These are rugged and waterproof ideal for the Irish climate. Core Timing will provide printed results within 20 minutes of the final competitor crossing the finish line. As well as the ability to accurately time your event, Core Timing provides instant accurate results to all competitors After spending many years taking part in race events throughout Ireland & the UK we have set up base in Northwest and now offer race day management throughout Ireland. Using the latest technology available, we can manage and cater your event with precision and the up-most effectiveness.Register Today

Saturday April 4 th 2015 was another amazing day in Kilmovee with hundreds of people flocking in glorious sunshine to Kilmovee to participate in the 6 th annual 10k race, each and everyone having their own reasons for partaking. For some it was their first race in this seasons Mayo A/C calendar, others to compete in the Michael McDonnell memorial trophy, (a competition within the race to commemorate the life of Michael McDonnell a young man who passed away at 33 who was part of the 10k committee in its early years), and for others their ambition was to beat their times on previous years and perhaps having some connection with the charity. Regardless of those goals one of the aims was to raise as much funds as possible for the Mayo/Roscommon hospice with Kilmovee Shamrocks being the other beneficiary, with all monies from registrations divided equally between both and all other monies, donations and sponsorship’s going straight to Mayo/Roscommon hospice.
The amounts raised will be published in the coming weeks when the final figures become available. Over the past 5 years over €30,000 has been raised for Mayo/Roscommon hospice. Visit Album 1 – Visit Album 2 – Visit Album 3 – Visit Results ‘One of the best organised races around’ was the verdict of many who flocked to Kilmovee for the 6th Annual 10k. Fair play to John Roddy and the whole Kilmovee Community, Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA club and lots of volunteers.
The plan is to improve year on year and the evidence is clear. This year there was a record 588 runners ,joggers and walkers lined up at the start. Organizing the 10k race and making improvements to it plays a big part of the lives of some members of Kilmovee Shamrocks with works starting on it months before.
The village is a very busy place in the week leading up to and the morning of the race with volunteers out at 7am. The men do an amazing job organizing the race route , parking , start and finish line and traffic while the work of the ladies in the community centre with their fine spread of refreshments for all is second to none. It is this level of volunteerism that makes Kilmovee such a unique and special place.
The race committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all volunteers , those who did some home baking ,the Civil Defence and ambulance crew and the Gardai and anyone who help out in any way to make the 6 th annual Kilmovee truly another memorable event. A special mention to Rupert Davis who does such a wonderful job on our web page, facebook page and with our online registrations. This year’s race was won again by Matt Bidwell beating his own personal best and setting a course record, with the first lady prize going to Katherine Shiel-Rankin of the UK and with Swinford connections.
A full list of Mayo A/C winners is available on the Mayo A/C website. A special mention to Ross Gannon who won this year Michael McDonnell Memorial Shield, this part of the competition means a great deal to the committee & organizers and we’d love to see many more schools & colleges enter in 2016. Once again a sincere thanks to you all, either for helping out or taking part.
It just couldn’t be done without you. Kilmovee 10K Committee Please put March 26 th in your diary for Kilmovee 10k 2016 and we will do it all over again (Registrations open) Visit Album 1 – Visit Album 2 – Visit Album 3 – Visit Results

Michael taught in Melview NS Co. Longford for a number of years before becoming Camp Coordinator with Let’s Go Summer Schools, a role in which he touched the lives of many Teachers, parents and children.
He was much appreciated as a Substitute Teacher in Schools throughout Mayo, Roscommon and Longford. He was loved equally by Pupils, Parents and Staff alike in Moylough NS Co. Sligo where he served, as Principal, until his untimely death in September 2012.“Only The Good Die Young!” While Billy Joel’s sentiment is obviously flawed, it does bring to mind names such as Jesus, MLK, Buddy Holly, Bob Marley, Janis Joplin, James Dean and many more who, like (Shakespeare’s) Summer’s lease hath all too short a stay. Add, to that list, the name Michael McDonnell. Born in Corgarriff, Kilmovee, Co. Mayo, the only son of Alex and Olive (both highly respected Teachers in Ballaghaderreen), Michael was educated in his native parish and St. Nathy’s College before graduating as a Primary School Teacher from Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. Only 33 and full of hope for the future with his wife Caitriona (Principal, Ballyfeeney NS Co. Roscommon) and their 2 children, Lucia and Eloise (of whom he was so proud) when, in October 2011, he learned that he had a Brain Tumour. He was, at the time, in the course of completing his new home in his native townland. He designed and carried out a lot of work on this splendid dwelling which now stands as a monument to his determination to achieve the very best in all he set out to do. Michael’s philosophy was that ‘If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing to the best of your ability.’ While he approached everything he did with the zeal of a perfectionist, he did not demand nor seek perfection in others but rather lauded even the most modest of efforts, in order to encourage others to become the best they could be. The suffering he endured during those final 11 months can only be imagined but even in the midst of his torment he sought to use his own misfortune to benefit others. He told his pupils at Moylough NS “The lesson to be learned is it is about being strong even in the face of uncertainty.” He steadfastly refused to be brought down by his illness and remained upbeat until the very end. Michael looked upon his career as a Teacher, not as a job from which he could gain personal reward, but as a means by which he could enable children to achieve the most out of life in order the make the world a better place for everyone. He, himself, squeezed as much as he possibly could out of life. Michael and Caitriona travelled extensively before deciding to settle in Kilmovee. This was a massive vote of confidence in a parish that has withstood the onslaught of famine, emigration and years of depression. Kilmovee, boosted by the calibre of people choosing to live in the area, has become renowned for it’s resourcefulness. Among the examples of Kilmovee’s resourcefulness is the Kilmovee 10K, run every year on Easter Saturday, in aid of Kilmovee Shamrocks (the local Football Club) and Mayo/Roscommon Hospice (a support organisation for cancer sufferers). The Race incorporates the Michael McDonnell Memorial Shield (confined to Teachers and pupils/Students), dedicated to Michael’s memory. It also recognises the vital role of Teachers in the life of the community. Michael had a keen interest in photography and he was happy to assist, as photographer for the event. He had an eye for the shot which would capture, in vivid detail, the essence of the moment the intense effort of the elite runners, at the head of the race, the comradery of those less concerned with finishing positions and the community spirit surrounding the event. His, quietly spoken, unassuming style belied the wit and charm that lay behind the smiling face. His loss is greatest to those not fortunate enough to have known him in life.Register Now

This is just a quick thank you for supporting the Kilmovee 10K, we sincerely appreciate your support. We know the choice of races increase each year yet we have seen our numbers grow from 160 in year 1 to 400 + in year 4 (2013). All involved at Kilmovee Shamrocks are very proud to inform you we have raised in excess of €28,000 for Mayo Roscommon Hospice in the past 4 years.
If you need a goal for 2014 please let it be to run, jog, walk or crawl the Kilmovee 10k on Saturday 19th April 2014 @ 1pm.
Holy Saturday saw the 4th annual Kilmovee 10K have its biggest field to date (over 400 runners and walkers). The winner was Con Marshall from Cork, winning the race in 34:47. 2nd place, Aidan Callaghan (Letterkenny) 35:02. 3rd John Mannion (Roscommon) 35:24. First female, Mary Gleeson 37:54 Mayo AC. 2nd Paula Prendergast Mayo AC 39:23. 3rd Lucy Brennan 40:29 Sligo AC.
This event just keeps growing expediently and is a just reward for the efforts of the organising committee. A shuttle bus service to the start saw the movement of the large crowd carried out safely and efficiently. After speaking to one runner from Dublin she described it as “the best 10K in the country.
Such community spirit is rarely seen in the city and its great credit to the parish of Kilmovee for putting such an event together “. A UK runner said she was “blown away by the friendliness of the whole community” and is definitely returning next year. Music at the finish line got young and old get into the party atmosphere and Kilmovee community centre was a hive of activity as runners and walkers tucked in to the wonderful spread of sandwiches and home cooking.
One runner said he would run the 10k again just to get more of the home cooking. A huge congrats to all the ladies who put in such an effort in the hospitality end and sent everyone home fed and refreshed. Full Result table:

Conditions were good for the 3rd Annual Kilmovee 10k on Saturday afternoon. There was a record turnout of runners and walkers – 406 finishers. John Roddy and his community team put on an excellently organised race – the first in the 2012 Mayo AC C&C Cellular Road League.
Race winner Martin Conroy (Ballina AC) led from the start and only had clubmate Roger Barrett as company most of the way. He passed 5k in 15.58, and finished strongly a few seconds outside his 2011 winning time to claim his third win in as many years at Kilmovee. His next target is the Belfast Marathon in a few weeks.
Anto Devaney and Andrew Lynskey were Mayo AC’s top finishers in 4th, 5th place. The women’s race saw Mary Gleeson set a strong pace from the start and she worked hard to retain her Kilmovee title in a great time 36.35, 45 seconds better than 2011. She will be hard to beat this year in the league and claim a record fifth win.
ColetteTuohy, 2nd in 38.57, and Angela O’Connor 3rd 40.46 made it a clean sweep for Mayo AC and they too will look to the national 10k next week with confidence. There were a lot of excellent performances among Mayo AC’s 23 runners, including a few PBs. Hugh Duffy had a great run to win the o50 category, two minutes better than his 2011 time.
His winter training schedule was a key factor. Pauline Moran’s 44.54 finish was also significant, and she will be a medal contender in the F55 category in the Phoenix Park. Kilmovee 10k Results
Conditions were good for the second Annual Kilmovee 10k last Saturday afternoon. Some said it was very hot, but nobody among the record turnout of runners and walkers -335 finishers- were really complaining. There were entries from 16 counties and from the UK.
John Roddy and his community team at Kilmovee Shamrocks put on an excellently organised race with the help of John Fitzsimons and Pat Hooper from Raheny Shamrock AC. The course was mainly on single track road, flat with gentle undulations and a short but tough uphill section after the 9k mark to test tired legs. “It’s a hill, get over it” read the supportive roadside notice at the beginning of the climb. Some may have missed the other eight similarly veined notices out on the course.
Race winner Martin Conroy (Sligo AC) led from the start and had a 25 metre lead over Robert Malseed (Mayo AC) at 3k. He gradually extended this lead, though pressed tenaciously by Robert and finished forty seconds ahead in 32.40, the same time as his 2010 victory, A Mayo AC quartet ran together for most of the race before Timmie Glavey broke away to finish third (34.37) ahead of 4th Anto Devaney (35.02), 5th Kevin Mellett (35.11) and 6th Andrew Lynskey (35.37) The women’s race saw Mary Gleeson set the pace from the start and she ran a great race to finish first in 37.20. Mary is an experienced Road League former winner and has set out on the 2011 League trail with 25 points on the leaderboard.
Westport native Niamh Richardson (Kilkenny City Harriers) finished second in 38.41 closely followed by Colette Tuohy (Mayo AC) in 38.57, her best time of the three 10k races she has run in the past two weeks. Mayo AC athletes won both women’s age category races. Angela O’Connor (41.01) ran almost 40 seconds faster than her time in Dublin when she won the National 10k o45 title.
Ann Lennon made a fine comeback to the road to win the o40 section in 41.22.
